Mangaluru: Solar roof tops will be installed at 50 government aided schools with 3kv capacity at an estimated project cost of Rs 1.37 cr, said MLC Ivan D’ Souza.

Addressing a press meet at his office here on Thursday, April 26 Ivan said that already six schools in district have installed solar rooftop units and four schools are in the process of installing the same. This is done through MLC’s local area development fund.

“In 60 wards of Mangaluru City Corporation, corporators will have to identify two houses of economically weaker section from their ward who will be provided Solar DC Home Lighting System. The unit costing Rs 20,000 can run two light, mobile charger and a fan,” he said.

Dakshina Kannada is in second position in the state in installation of solar rooftops. In coming days importance will be given to installation of solar units at all anganawadis of the district. Meetings are being held with bank officers in this regard and they have been asked to follow the guidelines of union government and provide loans to people to install solar units at 4 per cent interest.

Commenting on BJP’s internal dispute among Eshwarappa and Yeddyurappa, Ivan said that it is their internal matter, but in this case, personally he will support Eshwarappa.

“Though Yeddyurappa toured each village of Gudlupet and Nanjangudu during byelections he lost the elections. Hence party leadership should be changed,” said the MLC.
