Mangaluru: A preschooler, who sustained critical head injuries having fallen from the balcony of her apartment building at Shaktinagar passed away at the hospital here on Wednesday, May 30.

The deceased, Shannel Janicia D’Souza is the daughter of Wilson and Alithia D’Souza.

Shannel’s father works abroad and the mother-daughter duo was staying at the rented eighth floor flat in Classique Sapphire Apartments in Shaktinagar.

Assuming that Shannel was fast asleep, Alithia had gone outside for a few moments. It was during this time that Shannel is said to have woken up and ventured into the balcony. Here Shannel is said to have climbed on the grills, that are yet to be fully put up and fell down after losing her balance. She sustained head injuries in the accident and was immediately rushed to the KMC hospital. She however, passed away by evening.

Kankanady police have registered a case and the flat owner has been booked for negligence for not having put up the complete grills.
