41.1 kg sandalwood seized, 3 held in M’luru

Mangaluru: Police officials nabbed a gang involved in sandalwood smuggling on Mangaluru University in Konaje and recovered 41.1kg sandalwood worth Rs. 25,000.

According to sources, the theft happened on January 4 and a police case was filed at the Konaje Police Station.

The arrest accused has been identified as Majeed alias Nawaz, a resident of KC Nagar, Shareef alias Duniya Shareef, a resident of Bantwal, and Laxman Shetty, a resident of Vorkady.

Hasainar, a resident of KC Nagar, has also been arrested in connection with the case. Majeed alias Nawaz, the accused, is also suspected of being involved in a series of sandalwood thefts.

Several incidences of Sandalwood theft on the premises of Mangaluru University were reported in 2020-21.
