Kasargod : Kasargod police have arrested three persons involved in an autorickshaw stealing racket and have seized eight autorickshaws from them.
The arrested three have been identified as P V Rasheed (26) of Hosadurga, K Ganesh (47), owner of Sri Ganesh Workshop at Kushalnagar and Majid Haji (46) of Aavi.
Police said the three had managed to steal as many as twenty autorickshaws during the past one year. In fact the police had intensified investigations following several complaints of autorickshaw thefts.
Interrogations of the three revealed that they used to steal autorickshaws from busy places like railway stations and religious shrines. Of the three, Rasheed used to sell the stolen vehicles to Majid who used to take it to the workshop of Ganesh for repair and alteration to give the vehicle a changed look. They used to then sell the autorickshaw. Police also said that the amount was shared between Rasheed and Majid while they used to pay Rs 1000 per auto to Ganesh, apart from the cost towards repair.
Police said the stolen autorickshaws were even used to transport liquor unauthorisedly. Police are also searching for the remaining autorickshaws stolen by them.
