Mangalore: A 28-year-old married woman committed suicide consuming poison here at Senapura, Gangolli on Monday.

The deceased is Anitha Devadiga (28), daughter of Heriya and Sesi Devadiga.

According to the reports, Anitha was harassed by her husband Bhaskar Devadiga, a clerk in the high court over dowry.

It’s learnt that the family of Bhaskar Devadiga received more than 25 sovereigns of gold in the form of dowry. Not satisfied with the amount of dowry, Bhaskar and his elder brother demanded Rs. 10 lakhs from Anitha.

Frustrated by her husband’s repeated harassment, Anitha stayed in her maternal home at Senapura. Bhaskar, who visited her, picked a fight which ended with physical assault.

According to the police, Anitha consumed poison on Monday. Gangolli police have registered a case against Bhaskar Devadiga.
