23 from DK, 138 others test positive, minor and one more dead; Tally 5921, toll 66

Mangaluru: As many as 23 persons from Dakshina Kannada and 138 others tested positive for COVID-19, while the death toll increased by two to 66 on Tuesday, June 9. The state’s tally now stands at 5921 cases.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in the DK district has now risen to 218. Twenty-two of the persons who tested positive today had recently returned from Dubai and one person had returned from Maharashtra. All the 23 have been in quarantine since their return.

The fatalities were reported from the Bengaluru Urban and the Kalaburagi districts. The fatality from the Kalaburagi is a 17-year-old girl. She was presented with a fever, headache and breathlessness to a designated hospital on June 4, where she was admitted. Unfortunately, she died that same day. The girl also had a known case of demyelinating disorder, according to the state health department’s news bulletin. The source of her infection is not yet known.

A 65-year-old man from Bengaluru Urban is the second fatality. He was diagnosed with an influenza-like illness and had a known case of DM, HTN and CKD, the bulletin said. He was admitted to a designated hospital on June 3 and died on June 8.

The break-up of the other cases are: Yadagi (61), Bengaluru Urban (29), Kalaburagi (10, Bidar (9), Davanagere (8), Koppala (6), Shivamogga (4), Vijayapura (2), Chikkaballapura (2), Mysuru (2), Dharwad (2), Bagalkot (1), Tumakuru (1), and Chamarajanagar (1).

There are a total of 3248 active cases in the state as on June 9.
