22 students hospitalised for food poisoning

Mangaluru: Around 22 students of Morarji Desai residential school for minority girls in Deralakatte here were hospitalised for suspected food poisoning after partaking in lunch served to them in the hostel.

The students Azmiya, Nafiyat, Fauzia, Shahanaz, Qubra, Alphia, Ameena, Kavya, Afrina, Tahira, Raksha, Nishmita K, Darshini, Ayesha, Sahira, Ramseena fell sick in the afternoon.

The students complained of stomach pain and vomiting soon after they had their lunch.

Soon the teachers informed minority department officer who later directed them to shift the students to Yenepoya hospital.

The district minority welfare officer Sabir Mulla suspended the cook and the hostel warden for negligence.

Earlier also students had complained of rotten food being served to them.

The police officials are investigating the incident.
