20th CJ Aranha Memorial tournament concludes at Agrar

Bantwal:The two day sports festival organized by the Don Bosco Youth Association, concluded on December 1, Sunday.

Addressing the valedictory and prize distribution ceremony, the chief guest Rev. Fr. Ronald D’Souza, Director of ICYM Central Council of Mangalore Diocese appreciated the members  of Don Bosco Youth Association Agrar for conducting this tournament in a  systematic manner.

He said, “It is a  very appreciable fact to know that through the medium of sports the Association  has been able to unite the youth of this region.  The active participation of the various teams have given the message that all these years the tournament has been conducted with the spirit of sportsmanship and peace.”

He further said that all the participating teams are the true winners of the tournament.

The Parish Priest of Agrar and Director of Don Bosco Youth Association Rev. Fr. Benjamin Pinto appreciated the youth for conducting the tournament with great discipline.

Other  dignitaries present on  the dais were the President of Moodbidri Deanery ICYM Selwin Jude Colaco, the Vice-President of Agrar Church Parish Council Mr. Cyril D’Mello, President of Don Bosco Youth Association Roman Dsouza and Sports Secretary Michal Galbao.

Throwball

First:      Hospet Parish Team

Tug of War – Below 75 KG Category Men

First:      Mogarnad Parish Team
Second:Agrar Parish Team

Above 75 KG Category – Men

First:      Mogarnad Parish Team

Women

First:     Loretto Parish Team
Second:Agrar Parish team

 

Earlier, the inaugural ceremony of the  tournament was held on November 30, Saturday. The Vicar- Var of Bantwal Deanery Very Rev. Fr. Maxim Monteiro inaugurated the tournament. Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Benjamin Pinto, Fr. Benedict Noronha, Vice-President of Mangalore Central Council Joshwa Dsouza, Parish Council Secretary Nelson Frank, President of ICYM Bantwal deneary Alwyn D’souza, President Roman D’Souza, Secretary Jenissa D’Souza and  Sports Secretary Michal Galbao were present at the occasion.

The two day tournament was organized between the Catholic teams of Bantwal and Moodbidri Deanery  for the successive 20th year in memory of Late Rev. Fr. CJ Aranha who created educational revolution  in the village of Agrar.

Mangalore Diocese Bishop Rev. Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza also visited the venue of the tournament  on November 30 and  appreciated the organizers  for conducting the tournament in a disciplined way.
