18-year old girl charred to death in Sullia

Sullia: An 18-year old girl was charred to death when she was trapped in a fire that broke out in her house at Nadugallu in Sullia taluk on Tuesday.

The Subrahmanya police said Akshitha, daughter of Narayana Gowda was alone in the house. Electrical short circuit could have caused fire, the police said.

She was found dead by the Fire and Emergency Services personnel who were called an hour after the incident.

Another source said that she was unhappy with a marriage that was fixed at home and the invitation were printed. When no one was at home, she is said to have poured kerosene on herself to commit suicide. Subsequently, the flames spread all over and the house was gutted in the fire, its learnt.

As a result, the house was completely gutted and 30 bags of areca nut weighing around 3.5 quintals, gold ornaments and other valuables were burnt. The loss was estimated to be around Rs 5 lakh.

A case has been registered.
