
Mangaluru: A review meet regarding the nominations filed for the 2019 Lok Sabha was held in the Deputy Commissioner’s office, here on Wednesday, March 27.
Addressing the press, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said, “About 15 candidates had filed the nominations of which 14 have been accepted and one rejected. The rejected nomination is that of Sudarshan from BJP.”
Explaining the voters statistics of the district, he said that there were 16,97,417 voters including 8,33,719 men, 8,63,599 women and 99 others.
“A total of 26,605 new voters have been added”, Senthil said.
Informing about the polling booths, he said, “There are 1861 polling booths out of which 640 are considered critical and 1221 normal. To monitor the critical polling booths, micro observers and video cameras are installed to ensure that no untoward incidents take place.
Speaking about of the cases registered under the violation of election code of conduct, Senthil said, “Around 53,805.52 litres of alcohol worth Rs 77,77,607.56 was seized. A scooter, a truck, a tanker, two lorries, two Maruthi cars and 220 pamphlets were seized. One expenditure related FIR has been filed and about 266 excise law violations have been reported. The seized amount of Rs 8,73,000 has been released after thorough verification of the documents.”
He also informed that out of the 1631 weapons deposited in the police stations, nine weapons have been exempted to be used for bank security purpose.
Meanwhile, responding to the questions regarding a statement made by the Udupi Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati that stringent actions would be taken against those who indulge in None of The Above (NOTA) campaign, Senthil said that he was not aware of that and clarified that there were no such instructions given by the Election Commission.
“I will discuss this with her and if anything like that has been said, I will look into it”, he added.
