Karwar: The Uttara Kannada district bagged the second place for their tableau entry in the prestigious Mysuru Dasara procession held on October 8.

Each district participating in the procession was given a particular theme for their tableau. The Uttara Kannada was given the theme Banavasi Madhukeshwara Temple of the Kadamba times, and it was the centre of attention during the Dasara procession.

Artist Shivakumar had created an image of the ancient temple town of Banavasi, which at one time was the capital of the Kadamba empire. The statues of Shrikshetra Murudeshwara and Shiva, accompanied by the idol of Adikavi Pampa, attracted the attention of the people.
