Karwar: A total of seven people, who killed a ten ft long constrictor, in a bid to save a young one of a deer have been arrested by the forest officials at Mundagodu in Uttara Kannada district.

A python had tried to swallow a fawn in Mundagodu forest. Seeing this, local resident Basavaraja Kallappa Koni informed the villagers. Angry villagers managed to pull out the fawn from the constrictor’s mouth, but when they noticed that that fawn had died, they hacked the python to death.

The arrested are Basavaraja Koni, Shekappa Bevinamarada, Mohan Singh, Mahadeva Suthagatti, Basappa Hunchannanavar, Madhu Singh Rajput and Vijay Singh.

They have been remanded to judicial custody.
