Karwar: “Though the Government works in neighbouring districts received money at the end of March last year, only Uttara Kannada District has not received the last grant money. District Contractors’ Association President Dhiru Shanbhag said that if justice is not done to the contractors by the end of this month, the upcoming Assembly elections will be boycotted.
Addressing a press conference at the District Press Club here on Monday April 17, he said that Rs. 250 Crore has been allocated for the District including minor irrigation, public works and Zilla Panchayat. More money is pending from the government. Some have not even been able to pay bank interest. Money should also come for flood damage works. This means that the representatives of the district are inactive in this regard, he said.
The Government had floated a tender for the work. But we have to think about whether to participate or not,” he said. GST is 12 to 18, he said and expressed his displeasure that the sand problem has not been resolved and added that the earlier problem has increased in the last five years.
