Karwar: Every year, Gandhi Jayanthi becomes a day for people to take to cleaning their surrounding. Organisations and individuals schedule programmes for this day, but here in Karwar an organisation celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi in a very different way.

Jana Shakthi Vedike, Karwar, on Monday visited District Hospital and organised shaving and hair cutting session for as many as seven inmates who were living in a pathetic state.

Hair dresser Mohammed Salmani gave a nice hair cut and shave to the seven inmates, who soon after the session looked fresh and elated. Their long beards and untamed locks were trimmed and the inmates seemed to have appreciated the efforts of Jana Shakthi.

Organisation president Madhav Naik said that along with cleaning the surrounding personal hygiene too is of great importance and hence the organization spared a thought for the inmates of the hospital who have none to depend upon.

Vasu Naik, Asnoti Shyam K Salunke, Sudarshan V Malsekar, Gajanan Shetty Ankola, Yellapura Shankarappa Bhovivaddar, Koppanna Katpani and Hariyananda are the inmates who were given a makeover.

They expressed their gratitude the organisation which also provided a kit of soap, shampoo, towel and a pair of shorts and T-shirt.
