Karwar: Unidentified assailants hacked senior lawyer and social activist Ajit Nayak to death when he was returning home from his office at J N Road, Dandeli on July 27.

A gang brutally attacked 58-year-old Nayak at around 9:30 PM on Friday. He was profusely bleeding and was shifted to a nearby hospital. The doctors at the hospital declared that he was brought dead, reports said.

Ajit Nayak was the president of Dandeli Taluk Horata Samiti. He was also the CMC president and an activist of the Kali Bacho Andolan.

The Dandeli Town Police are investigating the case to nab the murderers. The reason for the murder is yet to ascertained, said reports.
