Bhatkal: A youth who missed his flight to Dubai, after he was detained for an immigration inquiry, at the KIA, Bengaluru, because he was from Bhatkal (read the story here) seems the precursor to further detentions for the same reasons across the world – A similar incident was reported from Hong Kong. A man and his wife, hailing from Bhatkal, were detained at the Hong Kong airport by immigration officers on June 13.

Abdul Munir is an ACC cement dealer. He along with his wife and other members of his company were on a fifteen-day tour to Hong Kong. They left for Hong Kong on June 11. A delegation of 27 people from Karnataka had also traveled along with him. On Saturday, June 13, when the flight from Bengaluru arrived at Hong Kong airport, all the others travelling with Abdul were cleared of by the immigration but he and his wife were stopped by the immigration officials. When the delegation from the company came to receive the people, they realized that Abdul and his wife were missing launched a search for them.

According to CCTV footage, the  couple  was made to sit in the immigration office till 12 pm and were not released in spite of numerous attempts the representatives of the company made.
Sources say that the airport authority did not give a reason yet as to why they had been detained. Finally the company’s officials managed to get the Hong Kong airport authority to release the couple and they were put on a flight to Bengaluru.

This information was given to Fikrokhabar, a Bhatkal based news website by Abdul’s son Ahmed Munir and said when on finding them along with the company officials, their family members were extremely worried but were later relieved to know their whereabouts. It is said that nobody was aware as to why Abdul and his wife were when the in-charge of the ACC company in Karnataka had confirmed the news of their departure.

Muslim associations and locals of Bhatkal have demanded stern action against the guilty and have demanded the state government to intervene and resolve the issue before further similar incidents take place.
