Bengaluru: The Sathanur police of Ramanagara district are on the look out for a 19-year-old Yemen national who is feared to have drowned in Mekedatu Cauvery river last Sunday.

The youth, identified as Omar Al Mady, was a student at a Bengaluru-based English speaking course institute. He had gone for a picnic with his friends.

The police said that he slipped and drowned while crossing the river. His friends made a futile attempt to search but later informed the Sathanur police.

Police officials rushed to the spot and summoned the local divers to search for the body but in vain. The police suspect that Omar might have drowned and his body may have been washed away in the river. The police are seeking the help of jurisdictional police along the river-side to lookout for the body.

His family was informed and they arrived at Sathanur. They are helping in the search operation, a senior police officer said.
