Mysuru: The Nanjangud Sub-Division Police have busted a cricket betting racket with the arrest of 6 bookies.
Announcing this at a press meet SP Abhinav Khare said that the arrested have been identified as Rakesh alias Pachhi, Madan and Sajil of Nanjangud town and Arun Katkar, Jandul and Manjunath of Konanur in Arakalgud taluk of Hassan district.
The Police raided Sumukh mobile shop on R.P. road in Nanjangud town and arrested its owner Rakesh and his two accomplices Madan and Sajil on March 19 for their alleged involvement in cricket betting, following which Rs. 46,200 cash and 6 cellphones used for the cyber crime were recovered from them.
Further interrogation revealed that three others were involved in the crime, following which the Police picked up Arun Katkar, Jandul and Manjunath from Konanur and recovered Rs. 90,000 cash, 5 cellphones, a laptop, the software used in the betting racket, a voice recorder and a Maruti Swift car from them, the SP said.
The accused were bookies operating as commission agents for a nationwide betting racket operating in big cities such as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Indore, etc., the SP said and commended the Police team for busting the racket.
