Bengaluru: A worker at a Namma metro site in Mahadevpura in Bengaluru east was electrocuted while another was injured on Friday night after the boom of a crane came in contact with a high tension line (11kv).
The police identified the deceased as Rabi Murmu, 21, a fitter. His colleague, Gauranga Gauniya, 23, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital. The incident took place around 10.45 p.m. while the duo was shifting a pier cap reinforcement cage with the help of the mobile crane, according to a statement from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
The mild rainfall exacerbated the situation. “While shifting the pier cap cage, the boom of the crane became electrically induced, as the crane passed through an overhead high tension line (11kv). The metal cage became electrically charged and the two workers, who were holding the cage, received an electric shock,” states the press release.
Both were working for a labour contractor. A case has been registered at Mahadevpura police station.
