Bengaluru: The helpline staff under city police have become helpless after they started receiving calls seeking sexual favours from callers on Women’s Helpline numbers 1090 and Senior Citizens’ Helpline number 1091.

Interestingly, no complaints have been registered till date against the pervert callers.

“The calls have become the order of the day and their numbers go up during weekends. Most callers seek sexual favours and on being cautioned, hurl abuses at will”, said a Vanithavani Helpline staffer. “We have to hold our dignity since we are working on helpline,” commented another women constable.

“We have not registered any complaint till date but our top brass in police commissioner’s office is kept informed. No action has been initiated till date”, said another staffer.

A staffer in Senior Citizens’ Helpline said, “Provocative calls have become routine. If disconnected, the caller dials up after a small break and there is not even a single day we are spared of this torture.”

A senior manager associated with a medical trust says, “Calls seeking sexual favours can be very disgusting when one works on helplines and can have a demoralising effect where one does not feel like responding to a genuine caller in need”.
