
Bengaluru: In a first of its kind novel gesture, two women swapped their kidneys to save their husbands who were suffering from the organ ailment. The kidney transplantations were carried out in two different private hospitals in the city.
According to the authorities, two patients were undergoing treatment at the Suguna Hospital in Rajajinagar and the Columbia Asia Hospital, Hebbal. Both of them were looking for the kidney donors. Even though their wives were ready to donate the kidney, it was not matching. Their kidneys were swapped through coordination between the hospitals.
Doctors said this could be the first instance of kidney swapping between hospitals within a city.
