Bengaluru: Rebuked by her husband for her ‘tasteless’ curry, a 31-year-old woman committed suicide by self-immolation on Thursday, September 20.

The deceased, identified as Jayalakshmi, and her husband both reportedly hail from Raichur and had moved to Bengaluru in search of employment.

Reportedly, Jayalakshmi committed suicide while her children were playing nearby at around 5.30 pm on Thursday.

She had bolted the main door to the residence from the inside, poured kerosene on herself and set herself ablaze, according to police. After a while, her children called for their neighbours when their knocks went unanswered, which was when they discovered Jayalakshmi engulfed in flames after peeking through a window.

The neighbours immediately alerted the police of the incident.

Jayalakshmi’s parents have filed a complaint with the police against their son-in-law Nagaraj for the alleged ill-treatment of their daughter. The husband has currently been detained by the police for questioning.
