Bengaluru: The war over tabling of Karnataka State Minority Commission report on encroachment of Wakf land has reached the court of Governor Vajubhai Vala with Legislative Council Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy bringing issue to his notice.

Brushing aside the ruling by the Chairman, the opposition BJP continued to disrupt the house proceeding over the delay in tabling of the Commissioner report. Following this Shankarmurthy and Deputy Chairman Marithibbe Gowda sought intervention of the Governor to clear the deadlock.

The Governor has reportedly assured Shankaramurthy of providing necessary directions to the government on tabling of the report.

The proceedings of the Council were being disrupted since the last legislature session as the government had refused to table the report, which allegedly named several Congress leaders, including Minister for Municipal Administration, Minority Welfare and Wakf Qamarul Islam, on encroachment of wakf properties.

BJP leader Anwar Manippady, who then headed the commission, had submitted the report to the then Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda in March 2012.

As soon as the Council met on Monday, BJP members resorted to dharna demanding resignation of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra, accusing him of failing to keep the commitment given to the court.

Even as the Opposition continued its protest in the evening, after two adjournments in the morning, the Chairman adjourned the House for the day.
