Vision Group declares 12 roads in Bengaluru as high density roads

Bengaluru: The sub-committee of Vision Group on Saturday declared as many as 12 roads as high density roads and made suggestions to the IT companies to change working hours to reduce traffic congestion in the city.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Aravind Jadhav, was attended by Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chairman and managing director of Biocon, Pradeep Singh Kharola, MD of BMRCL, N S Megharik, Police Commissioner of Bengaluru, T M Vijaya Bhaskar, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest, Ecology and Environment Department and Mahendra Jain, Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development Department.

The meeting took a decision to declare 12 roads such as Ramana Maharshi Road (Mekhri Circle to Windsor Manor junction), Hudson Circle area, Central Silk Board junction to Jayadeva Hospital flyover, Bannerghatta Road between Dairy Circle to Sagar Hospital, KR Puram-Benniganahalli to Mahadevapura flyover, Old Madras Road-Double Road to Big Bazaar, Hebbal Flyover, White Field area, Outer Ring Road-BEL to FTS Circle, Outer Ring Road-Mahadevapura to Iblur, Mysuru Road and Silk Board to Vellara Junction as high density roads.

It has also decided to implement New Traffic Circulation Plans on Hosur-Sarjapur Road, Manyatha Tech Park on Outer Ring Road, KR Puram, Benniganhalli, Bellandur and Whitefield areas. The meeting also suggested allowing BMTC buses operate through Russell Market road to ease traffic on Cunningham Road and synchronisation of traffic signal lights on important corridors. It advised the traffic police to conduct intensive drives against drag racing and wheeling and revive citizen’s traffic forum meeting, safe routes to schools and road safety training programmes for all school bus and van drivers.

The sub-committee also suggested to book cases under Section 283 IPC against those who encroach road and footpath. To reduce road accidents, the sub-group has recommended the police to register cases against Jay-walkers. It also suggested to have pre-paid auto stands at 13 important locations in the city for the benefit of commuters.

The sub-committee, while recommending the IT companies to have staggering working timings, wanted the traffic police to impose a ban on movement of trucks, tractors and trailers on city roads during day time and banning the movement of stage carriage buses within the Outer Ring Road.

Besides recommending shifting of 122 bus stops or shelters situated near intersections, training of drivers to stop at bus stops only, procurement of additional cranes, mobile workshop at Marathhalli and K.R.Puram, and operating additional buses after 9 pm, the sub-group has recommended commuter rail service on existing rail lines. The proposed commuter rail services are: City Railway station to Whitefield via Cantonment, Bengaluru East and Byappanahalli City Railway Station to Chikkabanavara via Malleswaram and Yeshwanthpura, Yeshwanthapura to Yelahanka via Hebbal, Yeshwanthapura to Chandapura via Banasawadi, City Railway Station to Bidadi via Nayandanahalli, University and Kengeri.
