Bengaluru: Even as the countdown for HD Kumaraswamy’s oath-taking ceremony has begun, both the Congress and the JD(S) have kept their MLAs caged in.
HD Kumaraswamy is all set to be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, with unconditional support from the Congress.
A fractured assembly emerged after the recent polls results. Though the BJP had garnered 104 seats, the Congress with 78 seats and JD(S) got 37 votes. Though BS Yeddyurappa of the BJP was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state post elections, he did not opt to go for a floor test and thus the Congress and the JD(S) joined hands together to form the government.
Ever since the political drama caught up, the elected MLAs of the Congress and the BJP have been corralled by their parties fearing a possible poaching attempts by the BJP.
The MLAs have not met their family since May 15 and it is said that the homesick MLAs wanted to go back home now that it is sure that HDK will be sworn in as the CM. However, knowing it fully well that anything can go wrong at the last minute, the Congress and the JD(S) have asked their MLAs to remain in the resorts till the event is over.
“All our MLAs will stay put in hotels till the floor test is over. We are holding another round of meeting with MLAs on Monday,” TOI quoted KPCC president G Parameshwara.
Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy too had met his party MLAs at Le Meridien and discussed government formation. It is said that HDK told his party men to understand the need to be in power and also requested them to stand by HD Devegowda and his own decision regarding composition of the cabinet.
