
Bengaluru: The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday June 29 filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Karnataka high court’s order of protection for Twitter CEO Maneesh Maheshwari in the Loni assault case.
The Karnataka High Court here on Tuesday June 29 will hear Twitter Managing Director Manish Maheshwari’s case against a notice issued by the Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh Police Department under Section 41 A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) asking him to appear in person before the police. The court on June 24 had heard the case and granted interim relief to Maheshwari, ordering the Uttar Pradesh Police not to take any forceful action against him until the next date of hearing in connection with the investigation into the viral video clip of an elderly man being assaulted on social media.
According to a bench led by Justice G Narendra, Ghaziabad Police can do a virtual examination of the petitioner, Twitter MD.
In connection with the Loni incident, the Uttar Pradesh Police filed a FIR on June 16 against nine entities, including Twitter India.
