Bengaluru: The State government will launch its Accident Insurance Scheme next week, Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader said on Monday. Financial relief of up to Rs 25,000 would be provided to accident victims under the scheme, he said.

He was addressing the gathering after participating in the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the construction of a paediatric intensive care unit, inauguration of a bone marrow transplant unit, a 100-bed ward, besides and an audiology unit dedicated by the Spastics Society of Karnataka at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health Hospital in the City.

“Money will be transfered to the victims within 48 hours of the accident. Besides, we need co-ordination from all the hospitals to ensure that the victims get immediate medical assistance,” he said.

The scheme is applicable to all citizens of Karnataka. Even if a person from a different state is injured in an accident within Karnataka, relief will be provided to him, Khader said.
