Bengaluru: In a bid to cut down the noise and air pollution in Bengaluru the state government has banned two-stroke autorickshaws from city roads from next month.
A subsidy of Rs 30,000 will be given to autorickshaw drivers who want to buy four-stroke LPG auto rickshaws and Rs 30 crore has been earmarked for the purpose.
An estimated 1.2 lakh autorickshaws are registered in Bengaluru and about 12,000 are powered by two-stroke engines. The drivers can avail of the subsidy one they get their vehicles scrapped and produce the certificate for the same.
