Two more covid-19 cases reported in K’taka, total rises to 20

Bengaluru: The coronavirus (covid-19) positive cases in Karnataka seem to be on the rise as five new cases were confirmed just on Saturday, March 21. After three persons were confirmed to have tested positive for covid-19 in the state in the morning, two more have tested positive for the same.

As of 2 PM on Saturday, there are now 20 covid-19 positive cases in Karnataka.

One person each from Mysuru and Chikkaballapura have been confirmed to have contracted covid-19.

Taking to Twitter, health minister B Sriramulu confirmed the news writing, “31Y, male, from Chikkaballapura (travelled to Mecca) has tested +ve. He returned to India on 14/03. Male,35Y, from Mysore has tested +ve. He returned to India from Dubai on 19/03 through #KIAL, Blore. Both are admitted in isolation hospital in Bangalore & Mysore respectively.”

A media bulletin released by the state department of health and family welfare services read, “Till date Twenty COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state which includes one death.”

According to the bulletin, 18 patients are in “isolation at designated hospitals and are stable”.

The bulletin also listed the details of the five new covid-19 positive cases as follows:

Patient 16 is a 53-year-old female from Bengaluru. She is a high-risk contact (housemaid) of patient 11 and was in strict home quarantine. She has been admitted in a designated isolation hospital in Bengaluru.

Patient 17 is a 39-year-old male from Bengaluru who arrived from Amsterdam, the Netherlands on March 19. He has been admitted to a designated isolation hospital in Bengaluru.

Patient 18 is a 27-year-old male from Bengaluru who returned from Edinburg, Scotland on March 17. He has also been admitted to a designated isolation hospital in Bengaluru.

Patient 19 is a 31-year-old male from Chikkaballapura with a history of travel to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. He returned to India on March 14 and has been admitted to a designated isolation hospital in Bengaluru.

Patient 20 is a 35-year-old male from Mysuru. He arrived from Dubai to India on March 19 through the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. He has been admitted to a designated isolation hospital in Mysuru.

The health department has informed that contact tracing in all the new cases has begun.

So far, 1,25,840 passengers have been screened in Karnataka.

The bulletin also added that directions have been issued to constitute teams comprising members from the revenue, police, municipality and health departments to visit all home quarantined passengers to stamp the backs of their left hand showing the date of the end of their respective quarantine period.

As many as 108 teams have been created in the BBMP area to visit all home quarantined persons on Sunday, March 22.

The bulletin adds that 48 government hospitals and 35 private hospitals have been identified for the management of covid-19 cases.

Two new covid-19 helpline numbers – 080-46848600 and 080-66692000 – are now functional apart from the existing 104 Arogya Sahayavani number.
