Bengaluru: Harish, an engineer with the Upper Tunga project informed that 7,300 cusecs of excess water was released on Monday June 14 from Tunga dam in Gajanuru village in Shivamogga, following an increase in water levels due to heavy rainfall.
“1,500 cusecs of water was released by the crest gates, and 5,800 cusecs through the powerhouse. To evacuate the extra water, 21 gates were opened ” he said.
“Tunga dam which is built across river Tunga in Gajanuru village of Shivamogga had filled up to the brim. The dam was overbrimming due to downpour in its catchments areas in Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga,” he added.
