Tumakuru: Former Deuty Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara visited the protest site at Ahobala Agrahara Village in Kora Hobli of the Taluk and Koratagere Assembly constituency, where the party had threatened to boycott votes, and held discussions with the villagers.
Kora Hobli in Tumakuru Rural falls under Koratagere Assembly constituency. In this part of the sand mafia, the powerful people are engaged in excessive mining. Mining is going on in 12 villages including Ahobala Agrahara, Chinivaranahalli, Jakkenahalli, Mudduramayyana Palya under Beladhara Gram Panchayat limits of hobli. The villagers who have faced a lot of problems due to the ongoing mining here staged a protest at night demanding a boycott of votes for the Assembly elections scheduled to be held on May 10.
Koratagere Assembly Constituency is the constituency of Dr. G. Parameshwara, who visited the spot on Monday April 10 and held discussions with the protesters.
Speaking to the protesters on the occasion, Dr. G. Parameshwara said, “We have no right to destroy the environment. Also, I am an environment-nurturer and I am not as bad as destroying the environment. I came to know about this two months ago about the problem being faced by mining here. If only I had known four years ago, mining would not have been allowed, he said.
There is an election now, he said and assured that after the elections are over, the matter will be discussed with the officials and further action will be taken.
