Tumakuru: Close on the heels of the Hethenahalli ‘fire-walk’ tragedy, which claimed four lives and left over 70 injured, a devotee sustained severe injuries at Gidadakenchanahalli, Kunigal taluk in Tumakuru district on Wednesday, when he fell into a pit of live charcoal.

Mariswamy (38) was rushed to the hospital on time as an ambulance was stationed in temple premises.

Sources say that Mariswamy has been taking part in the ritual of walking on live charcoals over the last several years , but this time he stumbled and fell into the pit.

He is said to be recovering.
