Bengaluru: BBMP Mayor G Padmavathi’s tenure of one year is due to end on September 8 and with this corridors of BBMP have turned into hotspot of activities.
The Congress and the JD(S) coalition had come to power in the BBMP and now both are parties are making all political emgineering for the posts of the Mayor/ Deputy Mayor. But, contradicting statements from both Congress and JD(S) is giving out hints that all is not well between the coalition partners.
Congress has chalked out its strategy under the leadership of Bengaluru Development minister K J George. But his statement that there is no change in the BBMP coalition agreement has now irked the JDS leaders who wanted mayor post at least this time.
JDS supremo H D Devegowda has already hit out at K J George stating that the JDS has not signed any bond announcing unconditional support to the Congress. “H D Kumaraswamy will take a final decision on the coalition. The Congress had assured transparency in the BBMP administration. But it has failed,” he has stated.
But according to the BJP leaders, the party which has highest corporators in the BBMP may not opt for any coalition. “State assembly election is just round the corner. If we get power in the BBMP, we may face anti-incumbency in the assembly election as the BBMP has failed miserably in providing civic amenities,” said a senior leader from Bengauru city unit of the party.
