Bengaluru: A 31-year-old traffic police constable was knocked down by a vehicle while on duty near the NICE Road underpass at Deve Gowda junction on Saturday around 12.20 p.m. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The deceased, Ravishankar S.A., was attached to Byatarayanapura traffic police station, and was monitoring traffic at the busy junction with home guard Venkoba Rao when the incident took place.

Rao was a few metres away but did not realise what had happened until a passer-by alerted him. A witness said he was knocked down by a truck. The vehicle is yet to be identified as there are no CCTV cameras in the vicinity, said the police, adding that Ravishankar had crossed the road to relive himself.

The Byatarayanapura traffic police have taken up a hit-and-run case.
