Bengaluru: A software engineer has approached the police seeking action against his wife and in-laws, who he alleges have been tormenting him for money.
In his complaint, the man, Dheeraj Reddy, a native of Andhra Pradesh has stated that his wife Jaya Shruthi and in-laws had threatened to implicate him in a dowry case if he failed to oblige to their Rs 2 crore demand.
As per the complainant, Jaya used to indulge in drinking and smoking and her parents too never objected to her habits. In 2017, nearly three years after their marriage Jaya started demanding that Dheeraj buy her diamond jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh and even threatened to end her life if he did not do so. Furthermore, three of Jaya’s friends started following him, at her behest and would keep her informed about Dheeraj’s whereabouts and activities. When Dheeraj confronted her about this she demanded that he give her Rs 2 crore and threatened to lodge a dowry harassment complaint against him.
A complaint has been lodged against Jaya Shruthi and five others at the Mahadevapura police station. An investigating officer will take up the matter after recording the statements of the people named in the complaint.
