Bangalore, Apr 6: Abhinav V Rao of Bangalore Institute of Technology, Phalguna P of RNS Institute of Technology and Shantanu Chakraborty of M V Jayaraman College of Engineering, all three from Bangalore, emerged the top three winners of gold medals at the twelfth annual convocation of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) at Jnana Sangama here on Friday April 5.
Abhinav won seven medals for having secured the first rank and the highest marks in BE electrical and electronics engineering and Phalguna won 6 medals for securing the first rank in electronics and communication engineering and the highest marks in aggregate in the last 4 semesters and also among the students of engineering colleges affiliated to VTU.
Chakraborty also won 6 medals for securing the first rank in BE Civil Engineering.
They received the gold medals from Governor and Chancellor of VTU H R Bhardwaj to a round of applause from fellow students and to the admiration of faculty members attending the convocation.
In all, 15 candidates who topped in the BE examinations in various disciplines won 47 gold medals.
The other toppers in their respective engineering disciplines and winners of gold medals at the convocation were Umesh C S (5) in BE (computer science and engineering), BGS Institute of Technology, Bangalore; Prateek Sangal (4) in BE (civil), Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore; Pradeep Vaijanath Biradar (4) in BE (mechanical), Bangalore Institute of Technology, Bangalore; Ashrit Triambak (3) in BE (instrumentation technology), JSS Academy of Technical Education, Bangalore; Ankit Agarwal (3) in BE (information science and engineering), RNS Institute of Technology; and Manoj V (2) in BE (environmental engineering) Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology, Chikmagalur.
Seven other candidates won a gold medal each for having secured the highest marks in various subjects.
In the post-graduate courses, Deeksha of Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering (MITE), Moodbidri, bagged the highest number of 4 gold medals by securing the first rank and the highest marks in Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Shivananda Sagar R of BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore, won 3 medals for having secured the first rank and the highest marks in Master of Computer Applications (MCA).
Vijayashree G of Ghousia College of Engineering, Ramanagaram, also won three medals for securing the highest percentage of marks with a first class in her first attempt in ME / M Tech in power systems engineering. Three other candidates bagged two gold medals each for securing the highest marks among all specializations and all semesters.
