Bengaluru: The price of tomato at Rs 80 to 100 per kilo which was burning a hole in the consumer’s pockets, came down to less than half on Monday reportedly due to increased supply.

The increased supply of tomatoes from Tamil Nadu has led to the downfall in prices. Retail and wholesale vendors said that the price would hover somewhere between Rs 35 to Rs 50 this week.
According to sources, when the prices of tomato had increased, the growers supplied more of it to the market to have good profits which led to sudden crash in the rice.
If the supply was controlled, there could have been some stability in the price, the source added.
