Bengaluru: The state education department has dropped lessons on Tipu Sultan from the Class VII textbooks. However, the lessons have been retained in class VI and X textbooks.

According to the department’s authorities, as per the decision taken by the state government, 30% of the syllabus will be cut this year to accommodate the shortened academic year. “In this exercise, Tipu lessons in class VII have been removed as they are repeated in other classes textbooks. In all the classes repeat syllabus removed. There is nothing serious in this,” explained sources in the department.

It can be recalled that in July 2019, Madikeri MLA Appachchu Ranjan demanded the removal of Tipu lessons from the textbooks citing his atrocities on Kodavas. The state government had formed a committee to look into the demand which opposed such a move.
