
Bengaluru: Munawar Pasha, a resident of the city, has been convicted and slapped a fine of Rs. 20,000 for assaulting a traffic policeman on duty.
The incident took place in February 2014 near Lalbagh, when head constable Shantha Veeranna was on duty, checking for those driving under the influence of alcohol.
When Pasha, who was driving his car was stopped, he not only verbally abused the policeman but also assaulted him.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Venkanna B. Hosamani, who convicted Pasha, has ordered three years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000. Half of this amount will be paid to the head constable as compensation.
