Bengaluru: Two separate road accidents claimed the lives of three software engineers in Bengaluru.

Two software engineers were killed in the first mishap which occurred at Kengeri around 6 a.m when their car collided with a 10-wheel truck.

The police have identified the victims as Prashanth Gopalakrishna, 27, and Akshay Kumar B.K., 25.

The car was coming from Tumakuru with Prashanth at the wheel. The duo entered NICE Road from Magadi toll booth and was heading towards Hosur, said the police.

According to the police, the duo was trying to overtake other vehicles when their car hit the truck from behind. According to the truck driver, the presence of fog was a contributing factor.

“The victims had not fastened their seat belts. Their car was an old model and did not have security features, such as air bags,” said a senior police officer.

Their bodies were shifted to Rajarajeshwari Hospital on Mysuru Road.

Kengeri traffic police registered a case of accidental death due to negligence. They have detained the truck driver, Mohammed Ali, and seized the truck.

“As the car was speeding and collided with the truck from the rear, the truck driver cannot be held responsible for the accident,” a senior police officer said.

In the second accident, a 32-year-old software engineer riding a scooter was run over by a van after he lost control of his two-wheeler on the elevated flyover at Electronics City on Wednesday evening around 3.45 p.m.

The police have identified the deceased Tejaswi Ponnapalli, an employee HP. The police said the victim was on his way to work and collided with a car that was parked on the side. When he fell, he was run over by a passing van.

Traffic movement on the busy flyover was disrupted for over an hour. The police have arrested the drivers of the parked car and the van.
