Bengaluru: Nowadays, ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ is one of the auspicious days that the believers mark their calendars among many other important dates. The belief is that auspicious work started on this day never fails as the sanskrit meaning of the word ‘Akshaya’ means ‘never diminishing’.
However, with astrologers implying that wealth bought on this day remains eternal with the owner and with efforts to commercialise the Akshaya Tritiya celebrations from various quarters, today, Akshaya Tritiya has become one of the most sought after days for gold buyers, who make a beeline at the jewellery shops to pick at least a bit on this day.
However, scenes during this Akshaya Tritiya, which falls on April 28, 29 may be quite different, thanks to predictions done with regard to Hevilambi Samvatsara, that started on Ugadi.
While some will observe the day on April 28 and many will observe on April 29 due to difference of opinion while deciding the lunar movements and astrological calculations, a sense of anxiety has been created by the experts in the field of Aagama and Shastras.
All started with few Aagama and Shastra experts claiming that all those things which will be bought on the day of Akshaya Tritiya of Hevilambi samvatsara will not last for long and will bring bad luck. Within no time, television channels ran programmes on these lines and now the jewellers are biting their nails anticipating trouble on the day they would otherwise see turn overs and transactions running into crores of rupees.
Speaking to this reporter, several jewel shop owners agreed that they are worried over the false news spread about this year’s Akshaya Tritiya. “It was the astrologers who were helping all these years. But this year same people are destroying our business. This analysis is done only in Southern states. In north India there are no such rumors,” says Pradeep KS, a jeweler from Malleshwaram.
There seems to be ambiguity and clash between astrologers too on this topic.
According to astrologer Ganesh Sharma R from Basavanagudi, all these explanations, predictions are not real astrology. “Basically there is nothing bad about this Hevilambi samvatsara. This confusion is beneficial only to few astrologers whom we can see only on TVs. They are not the real experts,” he said.
With this, one may have to wait and watch what would happen to the business on the day that was once considered to be most ‘auspicious’.
