Bengaluru: A consultative panel led by Chief minister Siddaramaiah will be holding a third meeting on Friday on the selection of a candidate for the post of Karnataka Lokayukta.
The last two meetings had failed to finalise a candidate, with ruling and Opposition members in the panel suggesting different names.
The state government was keen on pushing the name of Karnataka Law Commission Chairman S.R. Nayak for the post, but the BJP opposed it saying that the institution required a reputed legal luminary to re-establish the credibility of the institution. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, his counterpart in the Council, K.S. Eshwarappa, and Council Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy supported another candidate Vikramjit Sen’s candidature.
The post of the Karnataka Lokayukta has been vacant since December 8, 2015.
