Bengaluru: Located in the heart of the city, the Bengaluru town hall which also acts as a connecting point between Majestic, KR Market, Vidhana Soudha unfortunately happens to be known more for regular protests than other activities.

While the spot happens to be the preferred choice for those wishing to raise their voice, a petition submitted by a group of theater personalities to Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwar demanding a ban on protests in front of town hall has now led to a huge furore.

On Saturday, a group of theater personalities led by Shrinivasa Kappanna met Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwar and demanded an immediate ban on all kinds of protests in front of town hall. This team comprised popular Kannada theater personalities, director TN Sitharam, director KM Chaithanya, Sihi Kahi Chandru etc. According to Kappanna, the home minister has agreed to their demand.

However the same has invited the wrath of activists and writers who have urged the state government not to consider the demand. BR Bhaskar Prasad who has led several recent agitations including Udupia Jatha has given a warning that they will hold protest in front of Kappanna’s house if he fails to withdraw the demand. Child rights activist Vasudeva Sharma too opposed the demand of banning protests in front of town hall. Interestingly, TN Sitharam who was the part of the delegation that met Home minister has clarified that he is not in favor of banning any protests in front of town hall.
