Bangalore: The Human Rights and Corruption Eradication Forum, New Delhi, has put up a huge banner at the M.N. Krishna Rao Park in Basavanagudi and the contents of the banner has triggered a controversy. Similar banners have been put up at several places across the city including Rajajinagar, Race Course Road, Majestic and Malleswaram.
The banner calls for a ban on skirts in school uniforms and replacing them with salwar kameez/chudidars. It urges women to go around the city accompanied by family members, while asking them to fight miscreants without any fear.
The Banners have come in for criticism from all quarters. The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) has labelled this as ‘Talibanism’ and said tht “No human rights violation or corruption can be eradicated by removing skirts as school uniform. We do not need such a diktat from anyone,” “Everybody should feel protected and not feel the need to seek protection,” she added.
BBMP officials said that the banners have been put up without permission from the civic body.
