Bangalore: Capital city has had record rainfall this month. Spared the impact of Hudhud, the Bay of Bengal Cyclonic storm which has hot Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, other depressions have not spared Bangaloreans from a wet and often flooded city.

The rainfall halfway through the month is 215 mm and it has exceeded the entire month’s average quota of 170 mm by a wide margin. This makes it the wettest October in nine years, exceeded only by a whopping 606 mm recorded in October 2005.
Director of the Bangalore Meteorological Centre B. Puttanna, said “the rainy spell this past fortnight owed to three successive systems of cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal and more can be expected after a couple of days”.
“By October 15, we can expect rain from the northeast monsoon and perhaps also from new cyclones that are common during this season in the Bay of Bengal.”
Several other parts of southern Karnataka have been inundated over the last week. On Sunday, parts of Udupi received 60 mm rainfall while parts of Mandya recorded 50 mm.
