Bengaluru: After Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegade’s distasteful comment on KPCC Chief Dinesh Gundurao, about the latter’s personal life, Rao’s wife Tabu Rao took to Facebook to write a post recalling the ordeals she went through just because she, being a Muslim was married to Dinesh Gundu Rao, a Hindu.
“It appears I am a soft target for certain BJP leaders who are unable to politically take on my husband, Mr Dinesh Gundu Rao, who is also the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC),” the post starts off adding that after BJP MPs Mr Pratap Simha and Ms Shobha Kharandlaje, it is now the turn of Union Minister Mr Ananth Kumar Hegde to drag her into a political slugfest.
“I am a private person, a mother of two girls and a devout house wife. I do not hold any party or public position.”
It was only a couple of days ago that Hegade had said that hands touching Hindu girls must be chopped off, during a public meet in Somwarpete. In response to this, Dinesh Gundurao took to Twitter to question Hegade’s contributions to the state and also as a minister.
Irked by this, Hegade had retaliated on twitter calling Rao as a man who went after a ‘Muslim woman’.
“Yes, I was born a Muslim, but we are proud Indians first. The Constitution of India, which is built on the foundation of secularism guarantees every individual “Liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship.” read the post by Tabu Rao.
I have never made any personal remarks against any BJP leader and I strongly resent them using me as a pawn in their cheap politics. If they have the courage, they should challenge my husband politically instead of hiding behind a housewife’s saree and throwing stones. Such misogynistic and provocative remarks are highly unbecoming of a Union Minister, she said.
Hegade blocks Tabu Rao on twitter!
Tabu has further claimed that even when she tried to engage with Hegade in a conversation over Twitter, she realised that Hegade had blocked her.
“Karnataka politicians are generally known for their maturity and dignity. I would urge Mr Hegde and his colleagues not to sully the image of our state through their vitriolic statements and demeaning remarks against women, ” the post read.
Rao’s post has garnered about 99 comments, all in solidarity with her.
