Bengaluru: In a big embarrassment to the BBMP and the state government, Bengaluru secured a 194th place in the Swachh Survekshan 2019, which was announced on Wednesday. Mayor Gangambika Devi expressed her disappointment over the poor ranking.

It can be recalled that in the year 2018, the Bengaluru city had secured 216th rank.

According to the authorities, this year the BBMP had set a target of becoming one of the best 50 cities in the country, but the poor ranking comes as a big shocker for the city administration.

“Compared to other cities, Bengaluru is clean. I don’t know how we got such a poor ranking,” said Gangambika.

According to the ranking list, Bengaluru failed to secure good marks in all the sections including public feedback.

D Randeep (additional commissioner- garbage management) said the BBMP and the general public worked tirelessly to secure better ranking. “We will continue our efforts to improve the ranking,” he said.
