Bangalore: After bruising incidents of two police officer’s suicide and an attempt by a lady officer, state government seems to have woken up from its slumber to fix the dent. With mental stress and depression being billed off as a major reason for suicides in the police department, the state government has now decided to introduce counseling and Yoga sessions on regular basis for police personnel.
The department is mulling over the idea of roping in NGOs and organizations which are into such causes.
The department is planning to prepare a blue print of a programme regarding the initiative in consultation with psychiatrists and mental health institutes, sources said.
A committee will be formed to draft the contours of the programme and will be executed soon.
Some of the NGOs and MNCs especially Bangalore based companies have already shown interest to join hands with the department for the cause.
Mohan Raje Urs, a senior executive of a company said, the initiative is good if it is implemented properly. We are happy to join the initiatives taken by within our capacity, he said.
It is said that though counselling sessions were held for the police personnel some years ago, it was stopped abruptly for reason better known to the governments.
However, this move, if implemented may bring in qualitative change in the functioning of the people.
