Bengaluru: After a massive hunt, the van carrying banknotes worth Rs 1.37 Crore was found abandoned on Thursday morning in Vasanthnagar in the city, just a day after the driver sped away with it. However, Rs. 92 lakh cash and the driver are still amiss.
Right now, currency notes worth Rs 45 lakh and a gun have been recovered from the van.
It may be recalled that the accused driver Dominic Selvaraj Roy (40) had duped the security guard and driven away with the notes meant to replenish a Bank of India ATM on KG Road on Wednesday. The vehicle contained new Rs. 2000 notes apart from 1000 notes of Rs. 100 denomination.
The accused Dominic has been associated with the security agencies Secure Transit and Logi Cash. He had joined duty on November 1. Hours after the theft, the police had raided his house in vain.
A complaint had been lodged by Secure Transit Manager S Shivakumar mentioning that the incident had occurred between 1.30pm and 1.45pm.
A massive manhunt had been launched after a complaint from the bank and all the control rooms alerted.
