Bengaluru: Karnataka stood third in the construction of toilets in 17 days as part of the central government’s “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign with Uttar Pradesh topping the list.
Between September 15 and October 2, the highest number of 3.52 lakh toilets were built in Uttar Pradesh followed by Rajasthan with 2,54,953 toilets.
Karnataka with 2,41,708 toilets stood third, government sources confirmed.
The achievement is in response to prime minister’s campaign launch, Swachhata Hi Seva, (Cleanliness is Service) from 15 September 2017 culminating on Gandhi Jayanti, 2 October 2017. He had urged all NGOs, schools, colleges, social, cultural and political leaders, corporates, government officials, deputy commissioners and gram panchayat heads, to accelerate Swachhata activities during the said period.
People, after constructing their toilets and undertaking other Swachhata-related activities were given an opportunity to register their name and the name of the beneficiary family, whom they helped.
